Never Give Up – The Attitude of Champions

Never Give Up – You May Regret It if You Do

Only four days until my 15th marathon, the physical preparation is done. It’s not that easy to just stop working because the athlete is trained to push and never give up. However, with such a physical test ahead, rest is paramount. The last few days before any huge test are all about mental preparation.

Following are some of the thoughts I plan and rehearse to memory to use at different moments on race day. Some are a little overdramatic, but this is no ordinary trip, so a little “overdone” is necessary.

I read my motivational list each day with the hope of convincing myself of their truth and power to never give up.

Four days before the marathon – it’s positivity and inspiration day!

Never Give Up Quotes

1.      “I will rise to the occasion, it’s what makes me that guy.” A little Live Free or Die Hard Movie reference there.

2.  "I am a few hours from my dream coming true." I wish I could say a “couple” like the elite marathoners do.

3.  “I'm not going to let my mind tell my body I can’t do this." The “will” keeps the feet moving and heart pumping.

      4. "No amount of tiredness and soreness will deter my focus from my intent." The commitment to excellence is critical.

      5. "Pain is temporary; quitter is not who I am." It’s the willingness to persevere that determines the outcome."

And when bullpen relief is necessary, I defer to the expert catchphrases - "Don't confuse difficulty with failure." Eric Orton, and from the movie, A League of Their Own, “The hard is what makes it great.”
