Marathon Dedication

We All Have This Friend

Rest In Peace, Robert – 1st Ballot Entry

With my marathon a few days away, I have another reason to give my best. Along with those heroes of mine who so generously donated to my St. Jude’s Kids cause, too many to name here, but they know who they are, I will also run for a friend who recently passed away. I’m sure most of you have this type of friend in your life – the one whose heart and humility shine through despite what life has thrown at them. Their passing seems to hurt just a little bit more.

It’s the friend who was dealt a tough hand in life but never complained about the injustice. Every time I talked to him, he said, “I’ve been blessed,” at some point in our conversation. I doubt I would have such grace if the same had occurred to me. He’s that friend I would do my darndest to step up for if he ever asked, but of course, he never did. He was a complete “Giver” when he had every right to be a taker. Robert was like the postal service in that he always delivered no matter the weather, which is why, 12 months a year, he had a beautiful Hawaiian tan from riding everywhere over Chicagoland on his bicycle. When he gets to these pearly gates, there will be little discussion as to whether he belongs – he’s a no doubt first-ballot selection.  I was honored to know Robert Hahn, and when I struggle in my marathon, as I inevitably will, I will think of him and how blessed I am.

"Thank You, thank you, thank God for you."

There is still time to help my cause. Thanks for considering!
